School Description:
Outstanding academics. Stellar faculty. Prestigious internship and study abroad opportunities. State-of-the-art campus facilities. These are just some of the reasons why Brooklyn College graduates have an edge in the global marketplace. Situated in New York City’s most interesting borough, Brooklyn College is a nationally recognized liberal arts institution at the center of the great artistic, business, financial, and governmental resources of the New York City metropolitan area. The college has a lush twenty-six-acre, park-like campus, where students pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees in more than 130 programs in humanities, education, the arts, business, and the sciences and social sciences. Students may also participate in the doctoral programs of the City University of New York (CUNY), including campus-based programs in the sciences.
Brooklyn College is nationally renowned for its core curriculum which gives our students the kind of in-depth, comprehensive education of elite colleges, but at a fraction of the cost. Through its First College Year program, Brooklyn provides intense academic and social support for entering students to facilitate their transition to college. Beginning in the summer with Pre-Freshman Immersion, incoming students take special workshops and seminars. Comprehensive and ongoing student orientation and advisement continue throughout the first semester. Priority registration and specialized counseling strengthen the opportunity for a successful academic start to the undergraduate experience. Brooklyn College is consistently ranked by the Princeton Review as being among the top fifty in the nation for “most bang for your buck.” In 2009, the college guide particularly cites Brooklyn’s “very serious and admirably diverse undergraduate population,” its excellent liberal arts curriculum, and the high caliber of its faculty.
Brooklyn College has over 16,000 undergraduate and graduate students who are engaged not only in their studies but in the outside world. They study abroad, participate in prestigious internships in some of the country’s best companies, non-profits, artistic, and government agencies. And they represent the most diverse city in the world, with more than 130 different languages spoken among them.
