Five Towns College offers monthly Open Houses with the exception of February and August. We invite you to tour our state-of-the-art facilities including our Audio Recording Technology and Film/Video Studios, Practice Rooms, Keyboard Lab, 500 seat Theatre, the college radio station WFTU and classrooms redesigned with Smart Board Technology. Every Open House begins promptly at 1:00 pm and will provide presentations and demonstrations featuring all of the school’s most popular programs such as Music, Music Business, Audio Recording Technology, Theatre Arts, Filmmaking, Mass Communication, Journalism, Elementary & Music Teacher Education and more! During every Open House, attendees will be able to experience the innovative technology that students get to work with every day and will be able to witness mixing in one of the school’s audio recording studios featuring the SL9000J, a 72 channel sound board.
Aside from checking out one of several recording studios on site, prospective students and their families will also have the chance to speak with faculty, staff and students about their program of interest. Representatives from Admissions, Financial Aid and Career Services will also be on hand to answer any questions. Career Services will discuss how they guide students to internships and companies that fit into their professional path. These internships are an excellent way for a student to enhance their skills while making valuable contacts in the professional world. Five Towns College is a small college where everyone knows each other. Classes are relatively small, where everyday application to hands-on- training is the norm. Internship programs are required in the senior year by most students, welcoming the opportunity to network and work on projects with experts in the entertainment field. Last year, 91% of the graduates reported that they were employed. The emphasis of the college is to “Make Music Your Life” with all of the variations of programs offered in the field of music and the entertainment industry. Degree and course programs are offered in Music, Music Business, Audio Recording, Film/Video Production, Broadcasting/Journalism, Theatre Arts and Teacher Education.
Music students are afforded the opportunity to perform at Lincoln Center and other concert venues, teach in neighborhood schools or participate in many of the college concerts and theatre productions. Most of the students are interested in performance, composition/songwriting or being a music teacher. Students in the Music program are awarded an Associate, Bachelor , Master's or Doctoral degree.
Theatre students are involved in six different productions a semester including musicals, dramas, comedies and even a childrens' theatre production. Focus is on all aspects of theatre arts include stage movement, vocal, dance and acting. Students earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. (B.F.A)
Five Towns' audio recording studios are among the finest in the nation and feature the SSL 9000J with 5.1 and 6.1 surround sound mixing capabilities. Students taking a music or business degree can specialize in a concentration of audio recording technology. Many students acquire positions in the entertainment industry by their knowledge in audio recording production.
The film/television studios incorporate nearly every professional format used in the industry today, and include a complete avid digital film editing lab and suites advanced 16-mm film and digital cameras and a dedicated production sound stage. Computer labs and MIDI labs provide the lates in digital non-linear technology, while specialized library holdings uniquely support the curriculum. Students in this program will be awarded a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree (B.F.A)
The Business program is one of the larger components of the college, where students can specialize in the Music Business program. Here a student will learn about entertainment law, contacts, licensing, artist management and a variety of courses relating to the field of Music Business. Business students can also specialize in audio recording at the college. Students in this program receive a Bachelor of professional Studies. (B.P.S)
The Mass Communication program features Broadcasting and Journalism as the foundation to its degree program. Students are involved in the college radio station, many having their own on-air shows, even in their first year. Others are involved in the school newspaper, yearbook or other contemporary writings at the college. A Bachelor of Science (B.S.) is awarded to these students.
In addition to the Music Education program where students can become teachers, there is a degree program for those interested in studying to become an elementary teacher, known as Childhood Education. This degree offered is a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.).
Five Towns is the right size. Approximately 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students are enrolled. The faculty is superbly credentialed, with most possessing the highest terminal degree in their field of specialization and/or peer recognition. Among the faculty are Emmy Award-Winning cinematographers, Oscar Award-winning producers, cirtically acclaimed musicians, published writers and experienced educators.
For those requiring housing, our residence halls offer rooms with a private bathroom, internet and satellite television. A large student activities program is available for all students, both for commuter and dorm students.
Scholarships are available in many specific degree programs including Music and Theatre, where auditions determine the amount of the scholarship. Other scholarships are available in Mass Communication and Childhood Education, not to exclude those students with exceptional academics where they may qualify for a merit scholarship. Last year, over two million dollars was awarded from the college to deserving students.
